More Evidence: Vitamin C DOES Protect Against Colds

Mainstream medicine and the mainstream media keep trying to deny it, but more evidence shows that Vitamin C does protect against colds.
By the time he died in 1994, Linus Pauling had long been branded a “quack” by mainstream medicine and much of the mainstream media. Why? Because he advocated the use of vitamin C to treat many diseases, including the common cold. He claimed the medical establishment had long ignored important studies by respected scientists who provided evidence of vitamin C’s disease-fighting properties.

Now, in a review of multiple placebo-controlled vitamin C studies, scientists at the University of Helsinki have found evidence that backs up what Dr. Pauling was saying decades ago. Bottom line: once again, it appears clear that vitamin C could well be a powerful source to avoid or shorten colds — especially in people under heavy physical stress. Read more

Better Than Vitamin C?

Axtaxanthin is the most potent antioxidant nature has to offer, says Joseph Mercola.
A little-known carotenoid called astaxanthin is now believed to be the most potent antioxidant nature has to offer. Astaxanthin's benefits are so numerous, I've written several articles to cover its many activities, from UV-radiation protection, to eye- and heart health, to improved athletic performance.

It is one of the very few supplements I recommend to virtually everyone, for its overall health benefits. It's really one of the most profoundly beneficial supplements I've ever encountered.

In terms of antioxidant power or potency, astaxanthin is 550 times stronger than vitamin E, and 6,000 times stronger than vitamin C! Read more

Fix Indigestion without Antacids and Acid Blockers

Fix indigestion without antacids and acid blockers, which just make it worse, says Margaret Durst.
Indigestion – From gas and bloating to acid reflux – if you have it, you want to get rid of it. But don’t fall for something that just gets rid of the symptoms, look to address the underlying cause.

Most indigestion is the result of insufficient enzymes and/or insufficient stomach acid. The most common remedy is some sort of acid blocker that makes proper digestion impossible. Antacids and acid blockers perpetuate the problems of indigestion. They neutralize or block stomach acid, preventing the stomach from digesting food. A vicious cycle is then set up since more acid is needed to digest the food; so, more acid is then produced in the stomach, then more antacid is needed, then the stomach produces more acid, etc. Read more

The Real-Life Fountain of Youth

Joseph Mercola reveals how intermittent fasting and exercise keep your body young.
... Exercise is one of the “golden tickets” to preventing disease and slowing the aging process.

One reason for this is because exercise is one of the most effective ways to regain insulin and leptin sensitivity and reverse insulin and leptin-resistance, which is a key to staying healthy as you get older.

But another reason why exercise is sometimes regarded as a real-life fountain of youth is because, when done intensely, it boosts your body's natural production of human growth hormone (HGH), a synergistic, foundational biochemical that addresses the serious muscle loss and atrophy that typically occurs with aging.

Intermittent fasting has many of the same benefits, including dramatically boosting HGH and optimizing insulin- and leptin sensitivity, which I’ll discuss more toward the end of this article. Read more
