10 Homemade Acne Spot Treatments

Acne is a common skin condition, which occurs when sebum, or the body's natural oil, combines with bacteria within a clogged pore. Pimples erupt in response to white blood cells attacking the site of infection, creating pus indicative of whiteheads. Many commercial acne treatments contain harsh ingredients that damage skin cells, leaving the skin raw, and contributing to scarring and persistent flare-ups. Natural spot treatments may help to reduce inflammation associated with acne and eliminate embarrassing blemishes without chemicals. Here are ten homemade acne spot treatments:

1) Aloe Vera

You can either use aloe straight from the plant or a pure, organic product. Using a cotton ball or Q-tip, rub onto your blemish No need to rinse, but you can if you prefer.

2) Apple Cider Vinegar

Dip a clean Q-tip into raw, organ apple cider vinegar (full strength, right outta the bottle). Use the ACV-saturated Q-tip to gently rub your blemish. Do not rinse. If your blemishes are a little more than a few spots, you can use a cottonball to apply full strength ACV to the affected areas. Do not rinse. You can use this up to twice a day, but be careful of drying your skin out. Start with once a day before you go to sleep.

3) Banana Peel

Peel a banana, and keep the peel. Rub the peel directly onto the blemish for a couple of minutes. Rinse away residue and go about your day or go to sleep

4) Castor Oil

Using a Q-tip or cottonball, apply straight castor oil to your blemish. You may rinse if you’d like.

5) Honey

Using a Q-tip, put a tiny dab of raw, organic honey onto your blemish and gently rub. Place a band-aid over the top of the honey and blemish.

6) Lemon Juice

Apply straight lemon juice to your blemish to dry it up. Stay out of the sun if you don’t rinse the lemon juice off. it can lighten skin or irritate it

7) Strawberry

Slice the top off a strawberry, eat the rest, and rub the top onto your blemish for a couple minutes. You may rinse if you need to.

8) Tea Tree Oil/Jojoba Oil

Using a Q-tip, apply a 50/50 mix of tea tree oil and jojoba oil to your blemish. Leave it on.

9) Turmeric/Nutmeg

In a small, clean bowl, mix one part turmeric powder, one part nutmeg, and just enough honey or water to make a paste. Using a Q-tip or cottonball, apply to your blemish.

10) Witch Hazel

Using a Q-tip or cottonball, apply witch hazel to your blemish for a couple of minutes. You may rinse if you need to.

You can use any of these every day until your blemish is gone, or you can do one one day, and another the next. Although you should notice a major difference after just one treatment, it will most likely take 2-3 days for your spots to fully heal.
