As many as 11 percent of children and adolescents aged 4 to 17 had been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as of 2011, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Treatment choices are difficult when facing an ADHD diagnosis. Increasing numbers of people with ADHD are being prescribed and benefitting from methylphenidate (Ritalin).
