Vitamin D vs. Flu Shots
New research shows that vitamin D helps prevent infection, but will the medical establishment listen?
Flu season is upon us again. To prevent the flu, we’re told that the best remedy is to get a flu shot—a shot which is consistently ineffective, and, incredibly, still contains mercury in many cases. We at ANH-USA have been beating the drum about vitamin D and its well-documented anti-viral capabilities for years, and there is new evidence demonstrating vitamin D’s role in preventing respiratory infections. When faced with the choice of a cheap, safe, and effective natural immune defense against the flu, or an expensive, dangerous, and ineffective vaccine that makes drug companies billions of dollars—which will our crony health officials choose? Higher Vitamin D Levels Cut Colon Cancer Risk
Higher vitamin D levels cut colorectal cancer risk by 31%, according to a major international study.
Higher vitamin D levels significantly drive down colorectal cancer risk, a large new international study has found.
The vitamin, found in fatty fish and sunshine, was found to strengthen resistance to stomach tumors by blocking a common gateway that cancer cells pass through - and it was most protective in women.
The report, led by the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, adds weight to a long-suspected theory which, until now, had not been proven. Read more

Are Americans Really Getting Too Much Vitamin D?
Dr. Joseph Mercola takes a critical look at the recent media blitz of articles claiming that Americans are taking too much vitamin D.
Over the past couple of decades, tens of thousands of studies have evaluated the benefits of vitamin D, linking low blood levels to a whole host of chronic health conditions. In fact, this site was one of the leaders helping to catalyze interest in vitamin D over 15 years ago. Today, many doctors have finally caught on and are taking vitamin D seriously; testing their patients and recommending supplementation when necessary. The progress made makes the present backlash all the more shocking and disappointing. Read more

Vitamin D More Effective Than Flu Vaccine, Study Says
More vitamin D might help prevent colds and flu, according to a study.
Conventional health authorities claim getting a flu shot each year is the best way to ward off influenza. But where’s the actual science backing up that claim?
If you’ve repeatedly fallen for this annual propaganda campaign, you may be surprised to find the medical literature suggests vitamin D may actually be a FAR more effective strategy, and the evidence for this goes back at least a decade.
Dr. John Cannell, founder of the Vitamin D Council, was one of the first to introduce the idea that vitamin D deficiency may actually be an underlying CAUSE of influenza. Read more

The Indoor Lifestyle Is a Recipe for Disaster
The indoor lifestyle is a recipe for disaster. You need sunlight everywhere you can get it, says Ryan Banister.
With the apparent elimination of rickets at the turn of 20th century, following the discovery of the role that vitamin D plays in the elimination of this disease, most may think that vitamin D deficiency is a problem of the past. While vitamin D deficiency is not often found in North America, insufficiency is still very common. This should not be surprising, being that there has been an unprecedented increase of indoor computer use as social media and remote-access work continue to rise in popularity. The acclimatization of modern people to a lifestyle that is primarily indoors is a recipe for disaster when considering the importance of vitamin D and bone health. The following will discuss some of the major reasons why you need as much sunlight exposure as you can obtain within reasonable limits and how you can remove the primary obstacles that could be in your way. Is This the Surprising Reason You Are Always Tired?

Vitamin D Deficiency: Are You at Risk?
Recent discoveries have shown that vitamin D is crucial to good health. Edward Group lists nine symptoms that indicate that you may be deficient in this critical nutrient.
Despite the positive discoveries of Vitamin D over the past decade, many researchers are still unsure as to the extent of which vitamin D deficiency plays in disease development. [1]Many experts also disagree on whether or not supplementation or sun exposure is best, with many believing that natural sunlight promotes more balanced blood levels. Vitamin D "Triggers and Arms" the Immune System
Vitamin D is crucial to the fending off of infections, claims new research.
The so-called sunshine vitamin, which can be obtained from food or manufactured by human skin exposed to the sun, plays a key role in boosting the immune system, researchers believe.
In particular it triggers and arms the body's T cells, the cells in the body that seek out and destroy any invading bacteria and viruses.
Scientists at the University of Copenhagen have discovered that Vitamin D is crucial to activating our immune defences and that without sufficient intake of the vitamin, the killer cells of the immune system – T cells – will not be able to react to and fight off serious infections in the body. How do you keep your children and yourself from getting sick? Be proactive with Vitamin D, probiotics, and immune boosters, says Margaret Durst.
‘How do I keep my kids from getting sick?’ is a question I get asked a lot this time of year. I think it is an important question for adults as well as kids – especially as we head into the holidays. It always seems to me that some of the worst cold and flu outbreaks occur right after the holidays.
I have several theories. The first is about exchanging bugs (virus and bacteria) with our cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, etc. The second theory is our exposure to extremely rich food, upsetting our digestive tract which holds a significant part of our immunity. The third theory is about cold cloudy days without enough sunlight which reduces our daily vitamin D levels.
I don’t get very concerned about my first theory. It is a necessary part of family life which I wouldn’t want to be without. So see if you can have the biggest Christmas ever and make sure you see everyone you are even remotely kin to. Follow the advice below to keep your immune system tuned up so that the virus and bacteria do not take hold in your system. Read more

Protect Your Breasts with Vitamin D
To protect our breasts, Dr. Christiane Northrup recommends that every woman check her vitamin D level regularly and keep it in the optimal range.
There's a paradigm shift going on in medicine as new research reveals a far greater role for vitamin D. Vitamin D is not just for kids -- or the prevention of rickets. Optimal levels of Vitamin D (40-80 ng/ml) enhance the creation and functioning of healthy cells throughout the body. In addition to protecting the bones and boosting the immune system, studies show that Vitamin D helps prevent certain cancers, including breast, ovarian, prostate, and colorectal.Exciting new research shows that in the U.S. alone, thousands of new cases of breast cancer could be prevented every year if more women had optimal levels of vitamin D.
A study conducted by Cedric Garland and other prominent vitamin D researchers determined that women with vitamin D levels above 52 ng/ml have half the risk of developing breast cancer as those with 13 ng/ml! Garland (et al) estimates that 58,000 new cases of breast cancer in the U.S. could be prevented per year by raising vitamin D levels to 52 ng/ml. Imagine what the global impact could be! Read more

Vitamin D Fuels Muscle Power in Teen Girls
Vitamin D is not only a remedy for rickets and osteoporosis, but is important for muscle power, force, velocity, and jump height.
Although vitamin D is naturally produced in the body through exposure to direct sunlight, vitamin D deficiency is now common in the U.S. The result can be a host of health ills, including severe conditions such as bone thinning osteoporosis and bone deforming rickets. Although a lack of vitamin D has long been known to weaken both the muscular and the skeletal systems of the human body, little has been known about how vitamin D contributes to muscle power and force --- until now. For the first time, scientists have found that vitamin D is important for muscle power, force, velocity and jump height. Read more
