The Man Who Cured Heart Disease Naturally

Bill Sardi reviews the work of a man who cured heart disease with a natural molecule 20 years before cholesterol drugs!
His name: Dr. Lester Morrison.

His qualifications: Director and Research Professor, Institute for Arteriosclerosis Research, Loma Linda University, School of Medicine

Author: Coronary Heart Disease and the Mucopolysaccharides (1974, Charles C. Thomas)

In 1982 Dr. Morrison wrote: "I am Lester Morrison MD, and I have been a doctor for over 50 years. Much of that time has been devoted to finding a way to stop heart disease, which killed my mother, my father and several other members of my family and remains the number one killer in the U.S. and other developed countries."

Dr. Morrison provided compelling evidence in the 1960s that heart and blood vessel disease could be reversed and prevented with natural molecules, particularly chondroitin sulfate. This was over 20 years prior to the advent of the first cholesterol-reducing statin drug, Mevacor (1987). Read more

Coffee: A Cupful of Health Benefits

Is coffee harmful to your health? Actually, recent studies show that coffee is not only not harmful to your health, but plenty of health benefits are brewing in America's beloved beverage.
Patients coming to the Whitaker Wellness Institute sometimes express surprise that we serve coffee. Doesn't it increase the body's acidity? Aren't health-conscious people supposed to drink tea instead? Isn't caffeine bad for you?

If coffee were harmful, then every morning emergency rooms around the world would be choked with people suffering the ill effects of our favorite breakfast beverage. Of course, this isn't the case. Coffee is not harmful. On the contrary, I consider it to be a health food, and hundreds of studies bear this out. Read more

Is Fish Oil the Elixir of Life?

Is there an elixir of life? Sounds fishy, but researchers say omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil may have a direct effect on extending the lifespan of cells.
Fish oils may hold the key to longer and healthier life, claim researchers.

They say omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil may have a direct effect on extending the lifespan of cells.

Their study is the first to link the oils - either from fish or supplements - with the body's ability to resist premature ageing.

The 'elixir of life' discovery was made in heart disease patients, who are already advised to increase their fish intake to ward off repeat heart attacks. Read more

Anti-Aging Superfoods for a More Youthful Appearance

Want to look ten years younger? Make antioxidant-rich superfoods part of your daily diet.
The entire ageing process, from your first wrinkle to deteriorating memory, depends on oxidation, a process in which damaging free radicals, the body’s own exhaust fumes, begin to wear down the DNA. However, promising research has shown that we can slow down ageing in just about every system of the body by eating antioxidant nutrients that offset some of the damage that time and lifestyle inflict on our bodies and minds.

Having a Big Butt, Hips, and Thighs Is Healthy

A lot of women will be glad to hear this: carrying extra weight on your hips, butt, and thighs is not only not bad for, but actually protects against heart and metabolic problems. I think our ancestors already knew this from experience though they might not have been able to provide the data to prove it.
Carrying extra weight on your hips, bum and thighs is good for your health, protecting against heart and metabolic problems, UK experts have said.

Hip fat mops up harmful fatty acids and contains an anti-inflammatory agent that stops arteries clogging, they say.

Big behinds are preferable to extra fat around the waistline, which gives no such protection, the Oxford team said. Read more

Natural Health from A to Z

Margaret Durst gives her recommendations for succeeding with your New Year's resolutions to improve your health.
Making New Year’s resolutions regarding health and wellness is a great thing to do this week.

Many of us (me included) make weight loss resolutions – which are good to make, but hard to follow through with without some kind of structured program that helps change lifestyle. Many have great results with Weight Watchers; others like the do it yourself programs like South Beach. My personal favorite is the Fat Flush Plan. Pick what appeals to you, but plan ahead and get support.

Aside from weight loss, physical health and wellbeing are important goals. I think health begins with nutrition. Good food choices are important, and I find that a good core group of supplements also helps. Great multi-vitamins make you feel good and insure that you are getting nutrients that may or may not be in your food. I like whole food vitamins – there are some great formulas now, including stress reducers, energy boosters, high iron, no iron, etc. Read more

Melatonin May Be the Safest Remedy for Anxiety

Melatonin is a hormone secreted by the pineal gland that helps regulate other hormones and maintains the body's circadian rhythm. For some people, melatonin seems to help improve sleep. It also may be the safest remedy for anxiety.
... Melatonin may be the best remedy for people suffering from anxiety disorders. Also, you don’t have to suffer from an anxiety disorder to use melatonin.

All of us experience anxiety occasionally when faced with or stressing over a challenging situation and melatonin can be used for that as well.

As it is also a sleep aid, it can be used for white-knuckled fliers trembling at the thought of boarding an airplane. Read more

Broccoli Protects Your Arteries

The health benefits of broccoli along with the easy availability of this super vegetable make it one of our most popular vegetables. Eating broccoli may protect against heart disease, research suggests.
The health benefits of broccoli and related vegetables may come in part from a chemical known as sulforaphane, which appears to activate a specific heart-protecting protein, according to a study conducted by researchers from Imperial College London and published in the journal Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology.

"We know that vegetables are clearly good for you, but surprisingly the molecular mechanisms of why they are good for you have remained unknown for many years," said researcher Paul Evans of the United Kingdom's National Heart and Lung Institute. "This study provides a possible explanation for how green vegetable consumption can promote a healthy heart." Read more

20th Century Musical Geniuses Who Loved Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine that treats patients with heavily diluted preparations which are thought to cause effects similar to the symptoms presented. Though derided by conventional medical practitioners (in face, the American Medical Association was formed specifically to combat homeopathy), homeopathic medicine is still widely available. Homeopathic practitioner Dana Ullman lists the 20th century musical geniuses who loved homeopathy.

20th Century Musical Geniuses...

Sir Yehudi Menuhin (1916-1999) was a Jewish American-born violinist, violist, and conductor who spent most of his adult life in the United Kingdom. He began playing the violin at age three, and his first public performance, with the San Francisco Symphony, occurred when he was only seven. During World War II, he performed more than 500 concerts for the Armed Forces, which earned him the French Legion of Honor and Croix de Lorraine, the Belgium Order of the Crown and Order of Leopold, the Order of Merit from West Germany, and the Order of the Phoenix from Greece. He also received more than fifty additional honors, including an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II (England's highest honor for a non-British subject).

Due to ailments he experienced from the strain of performing and traveling, he began practicing yoga and meditation and using homeopathic medicines. He became the honorary president of the Hahnemann Society, a leading British homeopathic organization.

In early 1988, I sent him a copy of a book I had written on homeopathy. He responded: Read more

Green Superfood to Boost Your Immune System

Nutritionists agree that consuming more fruits and vegetables - especially deep green leafy vegetables - is beneficial to the body. Green superfoods are natural foods that are loaded with an abundance of nutrients that are above and beyond what is contained in most foods. In some cases, a green superfood is not only considered a source of nutrition, but also a means of treating various types of health conditions.
Green Super Foods such as Spirulina, Chlorella, and Blue-Green Algae all contain chlorophyll, protein, vitamin B-12, essential fatty acid GLA, trace minerals and other nutrients in a form that is easily assimilated by the human body. These green foods are one of the four basic supplements that I recommend for health.
